Thanks, Elf on a Shelf

While true that my site is called Families Across Time, but this holiday season it was more like Families Across the United States. You see, my wife and I live in Hercules, California but my sister and her family lives in Buffalo, New York. Strangely enough, when Christmas Day finally came it was warmer in Buffalo than here. Go figure.

Anyway, at the beginning of December my wife brought home a new friend: Elf on the Shelf. Say what you will about the little guy but he was actually a lot of fun this holiday season. I posted a few pictures of the little troublemaker on Facebook. Soon my sister joined in. The next thing we knew we were sharing the fun across multiple time zones.

In a way I think it helped to lessen the melancholy I would have otherwise have felt being so far from home. Our little Elves on Shelves did more than just get into trouble; they helped our two families connect.
